After such a long day yesterday, it was a bit of a struggle to get up & get going.
We went to Fushimi Inari Taisha (伏見稲荷大社), which was heaving with people because we got there at peak time. As we were heading to a parade later, we didn't have much time at Fushimi Inari so we couldn't go too far. I've not really got much to say about Fushimi Inari as we didn't spend huge amounts of time there & so what we did see was very similar - but walking through all the tori was cool - would have been better if there wasn't as many people there!
The festival we went to is called Jidai Matsuri (時代祭) & is over two hours long! It's a parade of people walking, single file most of the time, in period outfits & costumes, including people on horseback & carrying things. It was very busy, & admittedly it was good to watch for the first 15 minutes, but there was a lot of stopping & starting as they had kept the main roads open so the parade had to wait for the traffic to stop. Plus it was all very 'samey' & the horses didn't always appear to be well looked after. About 25 minutes in, Matt & Kayla went to Starbucks, & about 10 minutes after that, Chris, Christine, & I joined them because we were getting bored too!
